California has enacted new laws that relate to independent contractors as part of Assembly Bill 5 (AB 5). The new laws determine whether independent contractors are properly classified as contractors or employees and will become effective on January 1, 2020.

In response to these legal changes, ACT Appraisal, Inc. will now contract exclusively in California with appraisal firms that are “business entities” within the meaning of AB 5 – under the law, the appraisal firms may be sole proprietorships, partnerships, limited liability companies, limited liability partnerships or corporations.
